180 Days of Life

Our sleep woes continued into Emma's 6 month and we somehow stumbled upon the realization that if Emma was left to cry for about 10 minutes after we put her to bed at night, and then comforted and rocked for about 5-10 minutes after that, she would happily go to sleep on her own, in her crib. We attempted to simply add the 10 minutes of rocking into our bedtime routine but it seems our social butterfly didn't like that as much and therefore protested with more cries.

After nearly two months of sleep games, an unsuccessful run with the Ferber Method, CIO, the E.A.S.Y. method, and everything in between we just succumbed to the rocking and decided to enjoy the quiet moments with her. And by we- I mean I. It seems our social butterfly prefers to be more social with her Mama than anyone else at night.

Oh joy.

But, really oh joy. She is such a sweet one to snuggle with, her smiles melt my heart, her laugh is the best sound in the whole world and her sweet little cheeks dare you to look at her and not pick her up. Really, just try.

We continued to work on sitting up, but Emma still was not 100% sturdy when left to support herself. Emma developed a love for Mia's her rattle, became more and more coordinated and able to grab things, and began a love affair with her right foot.

She loves that foot.

We think it's pretty loveable too.

We didn't celebrate my birthday for long before we started celebrating something else. Mommy found a website that had 99 educational ways to use plastic eggs... I think Mia did all of them, but I was still too little and Mommy was worried I was feeling left out so...

She dyed an egg for me while I watched from my cozy papasan seat.

When we had exhausted our efforts with "tidy" egg activities we took it outside for a little sensory play making marbleized eggs with shaving creme. I wasn't so sure about the whole thing.

My role was pretty serious.. I was the previously dyed egg watcher. They aren't moving guys...

Still not moving...

Oh, that one tried to escape. Don't worry I cracked, um, got it.

All in all I think some people had more fun than others.. even though I was really good at my job.

Ohhh fancy eggs.

The day before Easter we headed to a huge egg dash held at BB&T Field. I really wanted to dash for eggs but when I saw they weren't marbleized I decided my time was better spent sleeping. I only do fancy eggs.

Mommy met a nice refreshment stand worker who took she and I through all the secret parts of the stadium to get my stroller down to the field in time to see Mia hunt eggs. Our nice friend wasn't there when the dash was over so Daddy and Mr. Ben got a workout trying to get me off the field.
We saw some friends there, which would have been fun except the adults wanted to try to get a picture with all of us and I couldn't sit up just yet...

So they put me in this.

At least Graelyn held my hand.

When we got home Daddy and I practiced making the same face.

And Mia let me ride her bike.
Mommy tried to take a pic of us in our pretty dresses but this is about as good as it got before Mia declared she was "all done holding me"

The next day we woke up and the Easter Bunny had come!

But we all know that isn't what Easter is about... Clearly Mia is trying to let everybody know here.. "Jesus has risen, Jesus has risen"

There, that's a little better.

Then something totally crazy happened... it snowed, in April! They tell me the flakes were huge but I wouldn't know, I was asleep.
When I woke up Mia was nervous I would be cold, so she decided to pretend it was 1980 and put this on my head for warmth.

Watch out Jane Fonda... I'm coming for you.

As if all the Easter celebrations and snow weren't enough, we partied it up at our friend Jack's birthday. Daddy decided I was ready for the bounce house.

Mia and I weren't so sure.

After the party we went home and rested up a bit, then we headed to Hanes Park for my inaugural swing ride.

I liked it lots. So later when we were home, I tried it again.
Swinging opened up my world to endless possibilities.

Like the exersaucer.

The play mat.

Hanging out in my all time favorite position- upside down.

Yoga- demonstrated here with my favorite foot- the right one.

Cute hand-me-downs.

Mellow Mushroom.
And my first jeans!

Who knew pants could be so cute?
I was so excited I could hardly stand it.

So, Mia and I practiced our excited faces together...

But I sorta think I've got this look down, even without her help.
