Learning to Share: 4 Months

Sometime in the 4th month Emma decided she wasn't spending enough time with us during the day and therefore abandoned her extremely consistent 9 p.m. - 7/7:30 a.m. sleep pattern and began waking up during the night.

The best of the worst was a 2 a.m. wake up call for milk and cuddles. The worst of the worst included nightly visits at 1 a.m., 3 a.m., and 5 a.m.; throw in the afore mentioned milk and cuddles and really the best stretch of sleep we were getting happened right after we went to bed until 1 a.m.

It's really unfortunate we always seem to get in bed around 11:45.

I still don't know what happened and unless I somehow birthed the world's most intelligent child and she begins talking, I think the mystery will remain.

Ahhh, babies.

Of course if you are my friend in any capacity whether it be in real life or in the alternate reality world of perfect known as social media, you know of these troubles already.

Now in all honesty, I have tried to think of other engaging things to talk about but it seems my brain cells magically fade away with every waking hour on the clock. So, after multiple conversations, hours spent with Dr. Google, days searching through the sleep books we already own, facebook posts with questions, we went to the doctor for her 4 month check-up.

Conclusion? Emma's fine. She just really likes hanging out with us.

It seems she was suffering from the 4 month sleep regression. So, we were encouraged to pack up our bags, move the 4 feet back down the hall to our own room, and let her figure it out on her own...

We took some of the instruction really well; others not so much. I'm still eating sweets like it's my job... just in case it's a milk supply thing.

All the sleepless nights didn't seem to bother our Em's as she started rolling over from belly to back and taking more concentrated swats at toys. She experienced her first Mardi Gras, Valentines Day, and Baby Dedication in her 4th month and now that I see it all in print maybe my sweet baby is just too excited to sleep.

After a "major" snow and ice storm hit the W-S and shut virtually everything down on eve of my 3 month birthday, Mommy had to scramble to find a place that would make our baby dedication cake. Thank you Whole Foods. They tell me it was yummy.
When we were getting ready for the night Mia didn't share her "game plan" with me, but it turned out she had one.

We later learned, Mia's game plan consisted of multiple attempts to speed crawl off the stage and into the crowd while the entire church congregation attempted to smile and laugh and then look down (and maybe even send some "is this really happening" text messages) as not to cause too much awkwardness. Mommy was so proud.

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. Ephesians 1:18-19a
Nannie, did you see Mia?!?!

She almost crawled right off the stage.

Once the baby dedication was out of the way I decided to work on being cute...

In my humble opinion...

I would say...

I did a pretty good job.

Once my cute skills were down pat- I set out to accomplish another task.

We talked it over with GG on skype and decided it was time.

So I rested up a bit. Mia thought maybe I would sleep better I had some company. Mommy put me in my crib and went to the bathroom when she came back Mia had done some redecorating... guess she's never heard of SIDS.

I know Mommy has complained of me being up a lot, but really would you be able to sleep restfully if your sister was ready to pounce in your bed at any moment?
I needed nourishment for my next skill and decided to forgo my normal milk for a little variety- turns out my fingers taste pretty good.

When Mia found out what I was up to she encouraged me to go shopping for the perfect outfit to perform in. She even got me ready to shop by putting this shopping bag on my arm. After all, every girl needs a really big bag to carry.

When I got back from shopping I decided to try the comb over look. I think it works well for my face shape.

We hit up home depot and learned to "build and paint" as my big sister says. I was a little tired so decided to hang out in my stroller for the pic.

Building and painting was fun but it really took it out of me and I had yet to perform my big task... so we went to Free Pancake Day at IHOP for further nourishment. I was super excited about it until I figured out the big kids weren't going to share, then I just fell asleep.

After a little encouragement from Mia and what I think was supposed to be a helping hand, I did it! I rolled over!

Yay Me!

I celebrated with a little reading.

A little staring.

And more reading.
And of course some partying! First Mardi Gras...

Throw Me Something Mister!
Then Valentines Day!
Happy Day of Hearts!
We also celebrated with Mrs. Jessica's Baby Shower

But for some reason my invite to that one got lost, so Daddy and Mia and I stayed upstairs.
I tried a little bumbo sitting and then got ready for the best celebration yet..

Our birthday's! Daddy, Mia, and I all were born on the same day of the month. So when I turned 4 months, Mia turned 2.5 years old.

We went out for pancakes to celebrate.
I was a little upset when Mommy said I had to share my special day...

Luckily I was able to pull it together for at least one picture. See you next month!
