I very clearly remember the realization moment on Uncle Brian's face when it occurred to him Mia could not hold up her own head. We had just braved our first plane ride to Houston for Cousin Anna's wedding and were proudly introducing our newest addition. Brian mentioned crawling to which I replied... "we have a long way to go before that happens... lets see if we can get her to hold her own head up first."
Oh how far we have we come... Sleepless nights and days, learning about the reflux, shooting Mr. Eanes the stink eye because he so much as breathed too loud when Mia's resting place of choice was the nap nanny in our room, trying to introduce a bottle, the all wretched tummy time that only lasted 2 minutes, night time crankiness that prompted our neighbors to tell us that yes, they could hear Mia from outside in their yard, hating bath time, loving bath time, completing our neck exercises, figuring out she would only sleep swaddled, moving Mia back into her crib and the feeling of conquering a major milestone- getting our bedroom back, trying the bottle again, the first smile, the first laugh, the first time Mia really got excited when Daddy came home, rolling over only to refuse to do it ever again, completing more neck exercises, holding her own head up, sitting up in the bumbo seat, tripoding on the floor, sitting unsupported and playing, teething, trying the bottle again, more sleepless nights, finally seeing the teeth, finally trying solids, and of course still trying the bottle. Yes, how far indeed. And now Uncle Brian... it is time to move the conversation to crawling. All of the sudden it seems so foolish that I thought we had such a long way to go.
