Life After One: 13 Months

After the cake crumbs settled to the floor and the all the grandparents went on their merry ways, John and I were left to come to grips with the fact that our baby, had indeed become a toddler.  Our first face to face encounter with the word came at Mia's one year check-up when her doctor said..."well that is very common in toddlers....".  Doing what any calm and collected mother would do, I interrupted him mid-sentence and demanded the definition of toddler.

I sincerely thought "toddlerhood" started at 2, apparently I was wrong.  Regardless of what we call this stage, every so often I catch a glimpse of my sweet girl and see the little lady she will become, but more often than not when I look at her I still see the tiny baby who joined us over a year ago.

In her 13th month Mia: took her first solo steps, which were followed by many more non-solo steps, went back to the beach in the freezing cold, finally experienced the relaxation of the bath tub, almost got to see pig races for the first time, and much to my dismay decided tee tiny bows were not really her thing.

Hey, do you mind?

I hate to tell you this Mom, but I hate bows, they are for babies.

Mom we have a situation... Raggedy Ann appears to have buttons for her eyes.

I can now check this toy off the list of the ones I have chewed on, only about 478 more to try out.

So I take a few steps and to celebrate I get to ride a wooden horse?

Get my good side!

Happy 13 months to me.
