You Didn't Pick Us, But Now You're Stuck With Us: 1 Month

After 9 months (and then some) of waiting for sweet Emma Claire to arrive, she was served an eviction notice by my doctors and forced into the world exactly 26 months to the day following her big sister.

Did I mention? We love her.

Different than older sis in so many ways, Emma is making a statement that while she may always be the little sister, she will not be a follower.

Month one taught us that Emma is...

super snugly, preferring above all else to be held while she nuzzles in on your chest

a very efficient eater, finishing her "meal" in 3-7 minutes flat sometimes, I started worrying she wasn't getting enough milk, but it turns out she's just a speed eater

a fantastic sucker, she has accepted a pacifier much more willingly than Mia ever did and would calm my greatest fears of having another "bottle refuser" when she took not one but twelve bottles during week five when Mommy ended up in the ER

going to be on some sort of Olympic swim team, this sweet little girl loves bath time which is a blessing considering how quickly her hair becomes greasy looking

a Momma's girl, so far I am two for two in this area, which feels flattering until everybody wants Mommy at the same time. Then it just feels stressful.

And last, but not least, Emma is most definitely...

Mia's favorite new toy. Never has a baby been so loved as Emma is by her big sister Mia. Obsessed with babies for a while now, the day we brought Emma home was a dream come true for Mia. I continually pray that their relationship be rooted in love and anchored in Christ, right before I pray Emma isn't accidentally smothered or crushed with all that love.

Emma's One Month Stats:

Height-   21 3/4 inches  72%ile
Weight-  10lb 8oz          78%ile
Head-     14.5inches      54%ile

I stayed very busy this month. I met these two first and let me tell you I was more than ready to put faces with those voices I kept hearing. "Look you two picking a name is not that hard and by the way Mom, I know you love root beer but I've about had enough of it"

Hmm... it's super bright out here and sort of chilly, I wonder if I can book a return ticket?

After the first night there was still one voice I hadn't met. I often heard her requesting "more song" or "more turkey" whatever that means.

When she finally showed up she was just as intense as I imagined. I played possum thinking it would deter her from wanting to hold me, kiss me, smother me; it didn't work.

After two days hanging out in my new home we suddenly moved. I didn't really understand why but I think it was for the best. Every time I got comfortable in that place someone came in to poke me or look at me, it was pretty rude if you want my opinion.

They tell me I met a lot of people in that first month but I really wouldn't know. For some reason they only wanted to come during the daylight hours when I was asleep. I woke up every night ready to play but the only people who seemed to be around then were Mommy and Daddy... so strange.

I attended my first pumpkin carving, but it was boring... so I just fell asleep.

Yes, yes everyone I am awake now but only briefly, in order to let you know that I prefer to sleep while being held, so let's try to work that out tonight....okay? Thanks.
Clearly there was a miscommunication, I said held, not smothered.

Or crushed.

Better...

Someone, anyone, please... my name is Emma Claire Eanes and I need to be rescued.

When I thought I could take all the snuggles no more, something magical happened... I was left alone for a few quiet hours with GG while everyone else went trick or treating.
They all came home again after the trick or treating and I decided if you can't beat 'em you might as well join 'em. Here I am getting my dance moves on in my first bath.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to sleep in a bed, it's so  much more cozy this way.

Daddy's chest is much more comfy but I guess I can hang out in here a while...

All that being stared at really tired me out.
I stayed in the swing about 5 minutes before I made it clear it was not where I wanted to be. Lottie and G-da showed up just in the nick of time and I ended up back in my favorite position, snuggled on some one's chest.

After days of everyone begging for more sleep they confused me by staying up late to watch the election results.

It wore me out so when Nannie came to visit I immediately put her in the holding rotation.

I've been told we went to all sorts of neat places during that first month... music, gymnastics, we even toured the fire station. I wouldn't know anything about that though, I spent all my time in this sling and the only thing I could see was Mommy's face.

These people celebrate lots of holidays. Not long after that trick or treating bit something called Thanksgiving happened and everyone showed back up at our house. Umm, so you're telling me I am related to this person?

I watched my first LSU/Arkansas game... well maybe we should say that I slept through it.

I have noticed my big sister seems to get a lot of attention... look at how many people helped put her to bed. Sorry Mia, I like attention too... I hope you like to share.

Apparently it is customary to wear clothes with poultry on them to celebrate this holiday. I'm really hoping next year I won't have to wear these socks on my hands anymore.

So this is my family...

I guess I can deal with that... happy one month to me.
