Mia learned a hard life lesson this past month... no matter what you have someone else is always going to have something bigger and better. So, even though we were super excited for our little girl to turn seven months old, I had to gently explain that Great Uncle Wartha turning 90 was just slightly a bigger deal.
Sorry pumpkin.
In all honesty, I am glad she could come to grips with it now. Hopefully it will save us some tears later on, you know when she is like 2 and all the other kids on the street have that motorized car I keep seeing in Toys R Us, and she is still Flintestoning-it in her Cozy Coupe.
Once we had that all sorted out, we went to Madison, to help surprise Uncle Wartha. It's hard for me to wrap my mind around what ninety years of life means; when I try to think about the way the world has changed in that time I usually end up shaking my head and saying..."wow, ninety years is a long time," or something cliche like that. What I do know is that ninety is an accomplishment to be proud of! Uncle Wartha, we are blessed to know you and have you as part of our family!
It turns out 90 cake toppers are not a big seller, so I made the stars and numbers out of fondant. We told people they were edible, but alas, no takers.
Uncle Wartha blowing out his candles on his other cake- everybody loves chocolate!
"Hey, Uncle Wartha- I'm seven months old. Do you have any life advice for me?"
"I know, I know... my Mom already told me the cake is not in honor of me..."
"If everyone else gets cake, I suppose I'll just eat this rattle. At least I get to experience life in this high chair- it's my very first time in one of these out in public."
Thanks for letting us celebrate with you- we love you Uncle Wartha!

1. I have never heard that name before--Wartha. It is so interesting, and kind of a mouthful.
ReplyDelete2. I have always said, and this just continues to prove, that you could make money from your sweets somehow.
3. so you coulda made those 90's and stars out of posterboard. ;)
4. tell Mia that despite this hard lesson, she DOES have that awesome $20 giraffe teether (the one I wanted desperately for someone to buy T, but no one did). Alas, he chewed on his $2 hand-me-down and has learned the lesson of bigger and better as well. ;)
